# Revert a paid reward

> Undo a content reward in Referly by changing a submission's status. Learn what happens to paid and unpaid payouts when you revert an approval.

If you approved a content reward submission by mistake, or something about the post changes your mind, you can undo it. You do this by changing the submission's status — and Referly asks what should happen to any reward it already created.

## Reverting a submission

Open the submission from the **Submissions** tab. Once a submission has been [reviewed](/docs/help-center/gamify/content-rewards/submissions) — approved or rejected — the review panel gives you a **Change status** control instead of the approve and reject buttons. To undo an approval, change the status to **Pending review** (to look at it again later) or **Rejected** (to turn it down).

You can also do this from the table: select one or more submissions and use the set-status control in the selection bar.

## Choosing what happens to the payout

Because the approval created a reward, moving an approved submission away from **Approved** opens a **What should happen to the payouts?** window. It gives you two choices:

* **Keep the payouts** — the reward stays in the affiliate's earnings and can still be paid out, even though the submission is no longer approved.
* **Delete the unpaid payouts** — the reward is removed, so it won't be paid.

<Warning>
  A reward that has **already been paid out** (or marked as paid) is always kept — reverting the submission can't claw back money that's already gone out. The choice above only affects rewards that were created but haven't been paid yet.
</Warning>

## After reverting

* A submission moved to **Pending review** is back in your queue, and you can approve or reject it again. Re-approving creates its reward afresh.
* A submission moved to **Rejected** is turned down; the affiliate is notified, as with any rejection.

If you'd rather remove an entry entirely — the submission and any reward it created — use the **Delete** action instead. That permanently removes it, so reach for a status change when you only want to undo the approval.
