# Gamification overview

> Referly's gamification tools reward affiliates for progress, performance, and content. Meet milestones, performance bonuses, content rewards, leaderboards, and contests.

Commissions reward affiliates for the sales they drive. Gamification rewards everything around that — reaching a goal, out-performing the pack, growing with your program, and creating content about you. Used well, it gives your affiliates a reason to keep going and turns a flat program into something they want to win at.

Referly gives you five tools, each doing a different job. You'll find them in the left sidebar.

## Milestones

**Move affiliates onto better terms as they grow.** Set referral or revenue goals, and when an affiliate reaches one, Referly automatically upgrades them to a better commission plan. It's the ladder your affiliates climb — the more they bring in, the more generous their terms become. [Learn about milestones](/docs/help-center/gamify/milestones/overview).

## Performance bonuses

**Pay a fixed reward for hitting a target.** Promise a set cash amount for a goal — 10 referrals, \$5,000 in revenue, 25 sales — and it's paid automatically the moment an affiliate gets there. A clear target with a clear payout, great for short pushes and standing challenges alike. [Learn about performance bonuses](/docs/help-center/gamify/performance-bonuses/overview).

## Content rewards

**Pay affiliates for the content they post about you.** Create campaigns that reward posts and videos — either by the real views and likes they earn, or by your own review of what they submit. It turns your affiliates into a content engine and pays them for the reach. [Learn about content rewards](/docs/help-center/gamify/content-rewards/overview).

## Leaderboards

**Rank your affiliates by performance.** Show who's on top by referrals, revenue, sales, earnings, or conversion rate over a time window you choose. A little friendly competition motivates the middle of the pack, and you can publish a leaderboard as a public page to help recruit new affiliates. [Learn about leaderboards](/docs/help-center/gamify/leaderboards/overview).

## Contests

**Run a time-boxed competition with prizes.** Set a metric, a schedule, and cash or non-cash prizes; Referly picks the winners automatically at the end of each period. Contests turn the leaderboard into a race with a finish line and a reward. [Learn about contests](/docs/help-center/gamify/contests/overview).

## Choosing where to start

You don't have to use all five, and they work well together. A quick way to think about it:

* Want to **reward loyalty and growth** over time? Start with **milestones**.
* Want to **drive a specific push** with a clear payout? Use a **performance bonus** or a **contest**.
* Want **more people talking about you**? Run a **content rewards** campaign.
* Want to **spark competition** and show off your top affiliates? Turn on a **leaderboard**.

<Note>
Some gamification features and higher usage limits are part of the Gamification add-on or higher plans. See [plans and features](/docs/help-center/billing/plans-and-features) for what's included on yours.
