Affiliates, then referrals, then sales. Referly runs them in that order because a referral needs its affiliate and a sale needs both.

Referly imports directly from Rewardful. Copy your API secret from Rewardful's Company Settings, run the importer, and your affiliates arrive with their referral codes, their rates and their original join dates. Commission plans are rebuilt by hand. Run both tools for a few days, then switch. Migration is free on every plan.

Before you start

What comes across, and what doesn't

Four things move in full, two move partly, and three stay behind. The last list is the reason the first one is worth believing.

Comes across

Affiliates and their details

Names, emails, payout emails, countries and status, straight over the API.

Comes across

Referral codes and links

The code itself survives. Maya stays maya, on a link pointing at your domain instead of Rewardful's.

Comes across

Per-affiliate commission rates

Individual overrides come across as per-affiliate rates rather than collapsing to one program default.

Comes across

Customers, sales and commissions

With their original dates, and with anything already paid marked paid, so a migration does not trigger a second payout.

Stays behind

Commission plans and campaign rules

Your campaigns exist in Rewardful and can be read, but there is nothing to import them into. Rebuilding them is the real hour of this migration.

Stays behind

The historic click log

Clicks are not importable at all. Your click-through and conversion-rate charts start from the day you switch.

Partly

Paid payouts

Sales you import can carry their paid status, so nobody is paid twice. The payout records themselves stay behind.

Partly

Unpaid commissions

Import them marked unpaid and pay from Referly, or pay them out of Rewardful first.

Stays behind

Affiliate portal branding

Rebuilt in Referly. Colours, logo, login layout and custom CSS are all configurable, but none of it transfers.

Commission plans are rebuilt by hand on every migration, from every tool, including this one. Nobody's importer carries them. Budget an hour for it and the rest of the move is mechanical.

Step 1

Where your Rewardful API secret lives

There is no CSV export step here. Rewardful's API gives Referly everything the importer needs, so this is a copy and a paste rather than a file.

In Rewardful

How Referly authenticates

HTTP Basic. Rewardful takes the API Secret as the username and no password, which is what Referly's importer sends.

The importer

Exactly what the Rewardful importer pulls

Generated from the importer itself, so this list is what the product does today rather than what a page once claimed.

1. Affiliates

First name · Last name · Email · Join date · Affiliate link

2. Referrals

First name · Last name · Email · Affiliate email · Join date · External user ID

3. Sales

Customer email · Customer name · Affiliate email · Transaction amount · Transaction date · Commission · Paid status

Referly runs affiliates first, then referrals, then sales. It refuses to start them out of order, because a referral needs its affiliate and a sale needs both.

The migration

Four steps, and only one of them is slow

The import is minutes. Rebuilding your campaigns is the part worth planning for.

1Scope and plan

~30 min

List your campaigns, commission rules and open payouts. Decide what happens to commissions accrued but not yet paid.

2Export and map

~30 min

Export affiliates from Rewardful. Referly's direct Rewardful importer maps affiliates, their referral links and their commission rates.

3Configure and import

~1 hour

Recreate your commission plans in Referly, run the import, and swap the tracking script and the payment connection.

4Verify and go live

3 to 7 days overlap

Run both in parallel, compare attributed sales daily, then switch off Rewardful.

Referral codes

Nobody has to re-share a link

Rewardful puts the affiliate's code in a ?via= parameter, and that parameter is already one of the forty-odd Referly's tracking script reads. So a Rewardful-shaped link that lands on your site after you have installed the script still resolves to the right affiliate. That buys you the overlap period. It does not last forever: once Rewardful is switched off, links pointing at their domain stop resolving anywhere, which is why the overlap exists and why you send everyone their new link during it.

?via= is already in the tracker

In Rewardful

Maya Bergströmmaya

In Referly

Maya Bergströmmaya

yourbrand.com/?ref=maya

Same code. New domain. Her join date comes across too.

Referly's tracking script reads

?ref=?via=?partner=and 30 more

Rewardful's own ?via= parameter is one of them, so a Rewardful-shaped link landing on your site still resolves to the right affiliate.

Install Referly on your store

Referly will read orders, discount codes and refunds so it can attribute sales and reverse commissions automatically.

Both sides, one program. A SaaS subscription in Stripe and a store order in Shopify pay the same affiliate, from the same commission plan, into the same payout.

The reason most people leave

Stripe and Shopify, on the same program

Rewardful's own pricing FAQ answers this directly. Asked whether a program can run without Stripe or Paddle, it says: "Not at this time. We currently support only Stripe or Paddle." If you have added a store, or you are about to, that is a hard stop rather than a roadmap item. Referly tracks both sides at once: a subscription in Stripe and an order in Shopify pay the same affiliate, from the same commission plan, into the same payout.

  • Stripe and Shopify connect by OAuth, in a click each
  • WooCommerce, Paddle, Chargebee, Polar and a JavaScript integration alongside them
  • One program, one roster, one payout run, however many places the money arrives from

Plan your move

How long yours will take

The import does not care how big your roster is. What moves the number is how many commission plans you have to rebuild.

400

The importer does not slow down with volume. A bigger roster just means more to reconcile during the overlap.

Commission plans and campaign rules

This is the input that moves the number. No importer carries commission plans, from any tool, including ours.

You use coupon codes today

Existing codes need mapping, and new ones minting on your store.

Your payouts are automated today

While you are here

Collect the tax forms you have been putting off

Rewardful has no tax-form collection at any plan, so most programs arriving from it have a folder of W-9s somewhere and a spreadsheet. Referly requests the right form per affiliate, suggests which one applies from their country and payout type, stores the tax ID encrypted and gates who can reveal it.

Tax forms, EU-compliant invoicing and automated payouts are on Business and above. Startup runs manual payouts and no invoicing, so check your plan before you assume this moves with you.

Last step

Cancelling Rewardful

Export a copy of everything before you press it. Affiliates, referrals, commissions and payout history, as CSV, kept somewhere you will still be able to find in a year. Most vendors close data access at cancellation and Rewardful is no different.

Then it is genuinely easy, and their own words are the fairest description: you can one-click cancel from the dashboard at any time, and they will refund you if you contact them within 30 days, no questions asked.

Do it after the overlap, not before. As long as Rewardful is running, links your affiliates posted months ago still resolve, and you can compare the two tools' attributed sales side by side to check the migration actually worked.

Migration help

If you would rather not do this yourself

Migration is free on every plan, whether you use the direct importer or bring a CSV. Bring the export, the list of campaigns you need rebuilt and your cutover date, and we will plan it with you.

Managed, done-for-you migration is part of Enterprise and the agency plans rather than every tier. For context on how the category prices this: Trackdesk includes migration and implementation assistance from its Business plan, which starts at $329 a month.
