The meter

The subscription is a tenth of the bill

Refersion charges a percentage of affiliate-driven sales, and it is the largest one here.

Refersion is clear about the mechanism: you are charged a percentage of affiliate-driven sales, not of total store revenue. That distinction is real and worth crediting. The percentage is still 3%.

On Launch that 3% is uncapped and sits on top of the $39 base. At $10,000/mo in affiliate sales the fee is $300 and the bill is $339. The next published rung is Growth at $199/mo plus 2%, which only becomes the cheaper option past roughly $16,000/mo.

The steep line is the 3%. A percentage of sales does not step. It climbs continuously, which is why the gap widens rather than jumping.

One fee, and it is the largest percentage in this comparison set.

3% of affiliate-driven sales (Launch)

$300/mo at $10,000 in affiliate sales; $600 at $20,000

Charged on top of the $39 subscription with no upper bound. Their page is explicit that it applies to affiliate-driven sales rather than total store revenue, which is a meaningfully narrower base than it could be.

2% of affiliate-driven sales (Growth)

$200/mo at $10,000 in affiliate sales

The rate drops on the $199 plan, so total cost crosses over around $16,000/mo in affiliate sales. Below that, Launch's higher percentage still beats Growth's higher base.

Marketplace listing: free

$0

A public brand listing in the Refersion Marketplace costs nothing and is a genuine recruitment channel. It is not a program plan, so you still need Launch or above to run one.

Referly's own fees, in the same format: 0% transaction fee on every plan, meaning no cut of sales, affiliate revenue or commission volume. Two optional charges do carry a percentage and neither is a transaction fee: agency client billing at 5% / 2.5% / 1%, only if an agency invoices its clients through Referly, and Referly Payouts at 5% bank/ACH and 8% card, only if you use the managed payout rail.

Plan boundaries

What's included, and what's on a higher plan

The Launch plan is generous on volume and thin on control.

Referly gates things too, and on the same basis: automated payouts, EU self-billing invoices, W-9/W-8 collection and the custom portal domain all start on Business at $149. Coupon tracking and link tracking are on every plan, and sub-affiliate tiers are 2 levels, not unlimited.

Is Refersion worth the money?

Refersion is good value if

  • Affiliate-driven sales are under about $1,200/mo, where $39 plus 3% beats a flat $75
  • The free Marketplace listing is a recruitment channel you'd actually use
  • You're a DTC store on Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce or Magento
  • Unlimited affiliates and conversions at the entry price matters more than the rate

It stops being good value when

  • Affiliate sales pass roughly $1,200/mo and the 3% overtakes a flat fee entirely
  • You need the API or per-product tracking, both of which cost $199
  • You sell subscriptions, where renewals and churn sit outside a store-shaped model
  • You reach $10,000/mo referred and the bill is $339 for what a flat plan does for less

Referly is $75/mo with a 0% transaction fee and caps at $10,000/mo in affiliate revenue on Startup. It takes no percentage of any sale on any plan, tracks Stripe subscriptions alongside Shopify orders, and includes API access on every plan rather than gating it behind a $199 tier.
