Referly imports directly from Tapfiliate. Its sub-affiliate structure goes two levels deep, and no further.

Affiliates, then referrals, then sales. Referly runs them in that order because a referral needs its affiliate and a sale needs both.

Referly imports directly from Tapfiliate. Take your API key from your account settings, run the importer, and affiliates arrive with their codes, rates and join dates. One caveat first: Referly's sub-affiliate commissions run two levels deep. If your Tapfiliate program pays deeper than that, it will not map, and it is better to find out now.

Level 3Not available

Referly stops at two levels. If your program pays deeper than that today, this is the part of the migration that will not map, and it is worth checking before you start.

Read this first

Referly's sub-affiliate commissions stop at two levels

Level one pays the affiliate who recruited. Level two pays one step further out. There is no level three, and there is no plan that adds one. Tapfiliate's MLM configuration can go deeper than that, so if your program pays three tiers or more, this migration will lose structure rather than move it. Most programs never touch level two and this is a non-issue. If yours does, book a call before you export anything, and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth doing.

  • Level 1 and level 2 rates are set independently, per program
  • Sub-affiliate earnings appear in the affiliate's own portal, on every plan that has the feature
  • There is no configuration that adds a third level

Multi-level commissions are on Business and above, not on Startup. Deeplinks, custom domains and multi-language portals are also gated, and Tapfiliate gates several of the same things to Scale, so compare plan to plan rather than product to product.

Before you start

Before you start: what stays behind

Tapfiliate carries more structure than most tools in this band, which means more of it needs rebuilding.

Stays behind

MLM configuration beyond two levels

Referly stops at two levels. A deeper structure has nowhere to land, and this is the one item on the page that can make a migration the wrong call rather than just a chore.

Stays behind

Commission structures

Rebuilt by hand, as on every migration from every tool. Referly's rule groups cover product, order amount, landing page, medium and coupon conditions, so most structures have an equivalent shape.

Stays behind

Workflow automations

No export, no import. Referly's nearest equivalents are announcements, email notifications, performance bonuses and milestones, all set up fresh.

Stays behind

Deeplinks and product feeds

Configured again. Referly supports landing-page URLs per program rather than a feed-driven deeplink catalogue.

Stays behind

The historic click log

Not importable from any tool, and it stings more here: clicks are part of what Tapfiliate bills you on, so it is the history you are most used to looking at.

Comes across

Affiliates, groups and their details

Names, emails, payout emails and status come across. Groups are recreated, but affiliates can be mapped into them during the import.

Comes across

Referral codes and links

The code survives; the domain changes.

Comes across

Customers, sales and commissions

With their original dates, so the history you built on Tapfiliate is still the history you report on.

Partly

Paid payouts

Sales you import can carry their paid status, so nobody is paid twice. The payout records themselves stay behind.

Partly

Unpaid commissions

Import them marked unpaid and pay from Referly, or pay them out of Tapfiliate first.

Partly

Coupon codes

Imported as codes, and optionally re-minted on your connected store so they actually work at checkout rather than only being recorded.

Commission structures are rebuilt by hand on every migration, from every tool, including this one. On Tapfiliate the honest warning is bigger than that: check your MLM depth before you start.

Step 1

Where your Tapfiliate API key lives

One value, from your account settings. Treat it as a live credential rather than a read-only token.

Tapfiliate's own docs note the key can approve commissions, so treat it as a live credential: generate it for the migration and rotate it afterwards.

The migration

Four steps, one afternoon, two days if you are on Scale

Launch-sized programs are half a day. Scale programs carry groups, deeplinks and automations, and those are the hours.

1Scope and plan

~45 min

List your campaigns, commission rules and open payouts. Decide what happens to commissions accrued but not yet paid.

2Export and map

~30 min

Export affiliates from Tapfiliate. Referly's direct Tapfiliate importer maps affiliates, their referral links and their commission rates.

3Configure and import

1 to 2 hours

Recreate your commission plans in Referly, run the import, and swap the tracking script and the payment connection.

4Verify and go live

3 to 7 days overlap

Run both in parallel, compare attributed sales daily, then switch off Tapfiliate.

This is the hour nobody warns you about. Commission plans and campaign rules do not come across on any migration, from any tool, including this one. Budget for rebuilding them and the rest of the move is mechanical.

The hour that actually costs you

Rebuilding the commission structure

This is the part of every migration that people underestimate, so it is worth seeing the shape of it. Referly's commission plans take a base rate, a recurring toggle, a step-down after a number of payments, and rule groups that key off product, order amount, landing page, medium, statement descriptor or a coupon being used. Most Tapfiliate structures have a direct equivalent. Building them is an hour, not a project, and doing it before the import means the affiliates land on the right plans.

  • Percentage or flat, one-off or recurring, with an optional step-down
  • Rule groups with ALL or SOME matching, and per-affiliate overrides on top
  • Non-cash rewards too: credits, coupons or store discounts instead of money

Multiple commission plans, per-product rules, per-affiliate rates and step-down schedules are on Business and above. Startup runs a single plan.

Plan your move

How long yours will take

Tapfiliate migrations vary more than most, because Launch and Scale programs are shaped completely differently. Put your own numbers in.

400

The importer does not slow down with volume. A bigger roster just means more to reconcile during the overlap.

Commission plans and campaign rules

This is the input that moves the number. No importer carries commission plans, from any tool, including ours.

You use coupon codes today

Existing codes need mapping, and new ones minting on your store.

Your payouts are automated today

Last step

Cancelling Tapfiliate

Export a copy of everything before you press it: affiliates, groups, coupon codes, conversions and commission history, as CSV, kept somewhere durable. Access usually closes at cancellation.

Cancel from your Tapfiliate account settings once the overlap has finished and the two dashboards agree on attributed sales.

Worth checking your billing period as well as your data. Tapfiliate meters on clicks and conversions, so if you are mid-month with allowance left, running the overlap inside the period you have already paid for costs you nothing extra.

Migration help

We will tell you if you should not do this

Migration is free on every plan, direct import or CSV. On this particular move that offer comes with a caveat we would rather state than have you discover: if your program runs deeper than two sub-affiliate levels, book the call first, and we will be straight with you about whether Referly is the right home for it.

Managed, done-for-you migration is part of Enterprise and the agency plans. For context: Trackdesk includes migration and implementation assistance from its $329 Business plan.
