The meter
The subscription is not the price
UpPromote charges a share of the outcome, and that share has no ceiling.
UpPromote's cards show $29.99, $89.99 and $199.99. On any program that works, those are the smaller half of the bill. The meter is a percentage of successful referral sales: 2% on Growth, 1.5% on Professional, 1% on Enterprise, with no upper bound.
At $10,000/mo in referred sales, Growth costs about $230/mo. At $20,000 it is about $430, and Professional's 1.5% quietly becomes the cheaper plan. The free tier is real too: up to $3,000/mo in referral revenue, UpPromote costs nothing, and Referly has no free plan at all.

This is the section that decides the page.
2% of successful referral sales (Growth)
$200/mo at $10,000 in referred sales; $400 at $20,000
Charged on top of the $29.99 subscription, on every referred sale, with no cap. It is on their pricing page in plain sight. It is not hidden, it simply scales with exactly the thing you are trying to grow.

1.5% on Professional, 1% on Enterprise
$150 and $100 respectively at $10,000 referred
The rate falls as the subscription rises, so the cheapest total plan moves as your volume does. Above roughly $12,000/mo in referred sales, Professional's higher base beats Growth's higher percentage.

Free plan: no percentage
$0 up to $3,000/mo referral revenue
The free tier takes no cut at all. It is a real product with one program and one coupon per affiliate, and for a store below the cap it is the cheapest correct answer in this whole comparison set.

Referly's own fees, in the same format: 0% transaction fee on every plan, meaning no cut of sales, affiliate revenue or commission volume. Two optional charges do carry a percentage and neither is a transaction fee: agency client billing at 5% / 2.5% / 1%, only if an agency invoices its clients through Referly, and Referly Payouts at 5% bank/ACH and 8% card, only if you use the managed payout rail.
Plan boundaries
What's included, and what's on a higher plan
The free and Growth plans share several limits that Professional lifts.
| Feature | Starts on | |
|---|---|---|
| More than 1 program | Growth ($29.99) | |
| Auto-payout with PayPal | Growth ($29.99) | |
| More than 1 coupon per affiliate | Professional ($89.99) | |
| More than 2 commission-rate levels | Professional ($89.99) | |
| More than 15 special-product commissions | Professional ($89.99) | |
| Unlimited staff accounts | Professional ($89.99) | |
| Multi-store sync | Enterprise ($199.99) | |
| Custom development | Enterprise ($199.99) | |
| Stripe or subscription-lifecycle tracking | Not available, Shopify only |
Referly gates things too, and on the same basis: automated payouts, EU self-billing invoices, W-9/W-8 collection and the custom portal domain all start on Business at $149. Coupon tracking and link tracking are on every plan, and sub-affiliate tiers are 2 levels, not unlimited.
Their reviewers, not us
What UpPromote users say they're missing
Verbatim from public reviews, with the rating and date each one carries. Every link goes to the source.
“It says the installation is free, but when you install the app. They provide you 14-day free trial. Once the trial is ended, they don't discontinue. They charged you automatically and said it's based on Shopify rules.”
Referly bills through Stripe, not the Shopify billing API. The 14-day trial needs no card, and cancelling happens in your own billing settings.
“Some features are only available in paid plans, and the suggested commission rate didn't account for my margins.”
Referly's commission plans are per-product and per-affiliate on every plan, set to your own rates. Coupon and link tracking are on Startup too.
“Some of the setup areas were a little confusing at first, especially the difference between the customer referral form and the affiliate registration form.”
Referly separates the two: affiliate signup runs through the partner portal, and the onboarding checklist walks a new program through setup step by step.

Is UpPromote worth the money?
UpPromote is good value if
- You're under $3,000/mo in referred sales, where it is free and everything else is not
- You're a Shopify store with no subscription revenue to track
- You want a no-code App Store install and a program running this afternoon
- Coupon-first campaigns inside one storefront are the whole model
It stops being good value when
- Referred sales pass roughly $2,250/mo, where 2% plus $29.99 overtakes a $75 flat fee
- The percentage starts compounding: $400/mo at $20,000 in referred sales
- You need more than one coupon per affiliate, which is a Professional feature
- You add Stripe subscriptions, which no UpPromote plan can track
Referly is $75/mo flat with a 0% transaction fee, capped at $10,000/mo in affiliate revenue on Startup. It takes no percentage of any sale on any plan. It also tracks Stripe alongside Shopify, and collects W-9 and W-8 forms from the Business plan. Below $3,000/mo referred, UpPromote is free and Referly is not.

Referly is $155/mo less at this size, which is $1,860 over a year.
UpPromote's plan is picked as the cheapest total at your volume, which is why it can switch from Growth to Professional as you drag. The free tier's $3,000 cap is modelled too.
At $10,000/mo in affiliate revenue with 200 affiliates and a 20% commission, UpPromote comes to $230/mo on Growth and Referly to $75/mo on Startup. Drag the sliders to your own numbers.
